While serving his term in prison, popular American rapper Lil Wayne has found a new job according to his ex-girl friend Toya Johnson. She reported that Lil Wayne has been asked to keep an eye on desperate prisoners with suicidal tendencies.

Antonia 'Toya' Johnson, Lil Wayne's ex-girlfriend and mother to his 11 year-old daughter, says popular rapper Lil Wayne has found a new job in prison.

Toya reported that Lil Wayne has been asked to keep an eye on desperate fellow inmates who have suicidal tendencies inside a maximum security prison in New York's Riker Island where he is serving a year for illegal gun possession.

"Wayne has a job. They got him on suicide watch for other prisoners. He watches the crazy prisoners and makes sure they don't kill themselves. He likes the job, even though they don't pay him much." She insists her ex is "doing OK" and "getting along with everybody.

The popular American rapper started his prison term last month for a case that stemmed from a 2007 traffic stop of his tour bus in New York when authorities said they smelled marijuana, and as they approached, he tossed aside a bag with a loaded .40-caliber handgun.

Before the start of his prison term, his lawyer said the 27-year-old Grammy Award winning singer will be held in protective custody, separate from common prisoners.

Lil Wayne, who has vowed to keep writing while behind bars, had already said goodbye to his fans during recent concerts and in video messages posted online.
