Southeast Asian Leaders Invite President Obama for Asean Summit

US president Barack Obama has been invited by the heads of states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to attend its Summit in Vietnam to address economic recovery and coping with climate change in the region before the end of the year.
US President Barack Obama is being invited by the leaders of the of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) later this year for a regional summit in Vietnam.
Leaders of Asean has just completed a two-day meeting in Vietnam and agreed to meet again late this year in Vietnam with US president Obama in attendance to tackle issues on coping with climate change and economic recovery and sustainable development in the region.
President Obama has visited Singapore last year together with US State secretary Hilary Clinton for the first summit with ASEAN under US president Barack Obama.

The two sides agreed to host another summit this year, according to a statement issued at the close of a two-day meeting of ASEAN leaders in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam which is the group's current chair. "In this regard, we extended the invitation to President Obama to participate in that event which Vietnam offered to host in 2010," it said.
Member countries in the ASEAN include, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and Brunei.
